Girls rule

Reactions:
Saturday was my girls night. Joel went to help his parents move and my kids spent the night with Mam. I invited some girlfriends over and we had an absolute BLAST. Honestly, probably one of the funnest nights I've had in a really long time. The only downer was that Michelle was sick and couldn't make it :(

Other than that, Rachel, Lezli, Amanda, Tara, Stacey and Jennifer were there. We had some drinks, played some games, ate A TON of food and had a lot of laughs. Thanks so much to all of you for coming out. I had been looking forward to that night for a very long time and I wasn't the least bit disappointed. Next girls night....LEZLI'S HOUSE!!!!

Check it!

Reactions:

Less than 24 hours after it officially becomes loose....IT'S OUT!

She couldn't stand the feel of a loose tooth so she and Dylan worked all day long to get it out and then boom, it's out. I have to say, I'm really impressed with her. She was incredibly brave. I figured her to woos it out and let it dangle there for the next week but she couldn't tolerate it at all and she would pull on it and push on it until it would bleed. Dylan grabbed it with the tweezers while she would jerk her head down so it would pull out. They tried everything short of a string and a door knob. She was determine to get that little bugger out TODAY. I'm proud of her. Now she's not the last girl her age to have a missing tooth.

Fair enough

Reactions:
I barely survived a day of "when is the fair?" yesterday. I must have the most impatient children on the planet.

By the time Joel got home, showered, and changed for the fair we knew we were going to miss the 5:00 shuttle from the mall so I called me dad (it was 4:45) and he was already waiting there so they decided to catch the 5:00 shuttle and we'd catch the 5:30 and meet them there. Halfway to the mall we realized that it would make more sense for us to drive straight to the fair. It's only another 5 minute drive, we just had to pay $5 to park. Big deal. So we actually ended up getting to the fair only a few minutes after my dad. Maddie was upset about not getting to ride the shuttle so we promised that they could ride it home with Grandma and Grandpa and they'd drive them home. That settled her fears.

First thing we did was get their ride bracelets and let them loose. Maddie wanted to go on everything. Dylan was Mr. Party Pooper. I almost took his bracelet away from him because he didn't want to go on anything. He was frustrating me. We made him go down the big slide. Can you believe I have to force that child to have fun????? My dad had to force him to play the paintball guns. I mean he literally had to drag him over there. Of course he had fun......

A few rides later it was time for dinner. I bought one giant turkey leg for Dylan and Maddie to share and my dad and stepmom bought a corn on the cob and a giant tub of french fries for them to share. I had a chicken gyro, which was so messy I had it dripping all over the place. Joel had a pulled pork sandwich. After eating we went to see the animals, which my kids always love for some reason. I don't get the appeal. Shocker there, right?

Then we decided to hit some more rides. The bigger rides. Dylan was still being a party pooper, but he went through the funhouse with Maddie several times. I took Maddie on the scrambler, but Dylan refused. Maddie squealed in excitement while I tried to force my dinner to stay down. After that I took them both on the Tilt-A-Whirl, which in my opinion is not the safest of rides. They both loved it while I again, tried to keep my dinner down. Why do we always have to spin??? Seriously children. After that my head and stomach needed a break. So my dad took them on the neverending ferris wheel. Then Dylan wanted to go on the Gravitron, which was always one of my favorites as a kid. Notice I said "as a kid." Oy dizzy. One final ride later they choose the scrambler, which Dylan agreed to go on. 4 minutes of pure unadulterated HELL. I couldn't breathe, which was probably a good thing because it would have propelled the vomit that was sitting at the top of my throat. Good times all around.

We literally only had like 30 minutes until the last shuttle, so we got them dessert. Maddie wanted shish-ka-berries and she promised grandpa she'd eat them all. Dylan wanted a funnel cake. Maddie was 3 berries into dessert when she apologized to grandpa. "I'm sorry Grandpa, I know I promised but I just can't finish this. My tooth hurts."

She opens her mouth and her bottom front tooth is just hanging there bleeding!!! FINALLY A LOOSE TOOTH O-M-G!!!! The day she's been waiting for. By the looks of it, it will be out by the end of the day or so help me God.

Pete and Repeat

Reactions:
My lovely daughter is a tiny little ball of of repetitiveness. Here are some of the phrases I hear somewhere in the range of 2 million times a day. That's an average.

"Hey mama?" This is a question. If not followed by a "yes, Maddie?" She will continually say "Hey mama?" until I do answer her and it usually takes about 3 times before she starts crying and says "you never answer me when I talk"

"Hey mama" is frequently followed by "I wanna tell you something" as if she has some huge ginormous secret to tell me that is going to rock my world. Usually it's just "i'm hungry" or "I love you" or "I don't know what to do, I'm bored"

This is all brought to the forefront of my mind today because we've been up since 7:00 a.m. this morning and I've heard "Hey mama" no less than 7 times already. That's an average of once every 4 minutes. At this rate we're looking at hearing it approximately 150 times today. That's an average.

My kids are up early and wired for craziness because it is "Fair Day". Every year my Dad and Stepmom take the kids and Joel and I to the fair. We have their "ride bracelets" already and today is "kids get in free day." Maddie's looking forward to going on the rides. She's not scared of any and wants to go on all the rides that Dylan goes on, but lucky for me, Dylan is actually very timid when it comes to the rides and won't go on very many that would scare Maddie. There is the Gravitron, which I finally got him to go on with me last year and he discovered that he LOVED. Maddie could go on that if she wanted, but her dad talked her into going to play games during that time, which she was happy with. Dylan is more looking forward to the food. He wants to eat all of these things: A turkey leg (you know the ones that look like they came out of the Flintstones); A scone (pretty much a given); an elephant ear (do you see a stomachache coming on); a cheeseburger (I seriously doubt this); roasted corn on the cob (at least he's thinking about veggies); and cotton candy (this is definitely not happening thanks to the cavities).

Anyway, I'll try to remember my camera tonight, but I'm not making any promises. I'll be lucky if I remember to wear shoes. If I didn't though, at least I wouldn't be out of place with the "fair folk"

Prepubescent boys and hygeine

Reactions:
This last weekend Dylan pointed out what was probably a cavity on one of his back molars. Yay for us, right? Then he pointed out the next day one that was on a molar on the other side. Double yay.

I made an appointment for next week but one came open this morning suddenly, which worked out good because Dylan only had the 20 minutes it took to get to the dentist to worry and obsess over it.

He has more than 2 cavities, but only 2 in adult molars so they're going to fill those and also going to replace the temporary patch on his front tooth. This fun stuff won't happen until September 28th, which is his first day off of school. It's also the day before his 12th birthday so I hope he likes his birthday present.

He's a funny kid because he's decided to give up pop all together (I don't really honestly know how long that will last, but hopefully a long time). He decided it is bad for his teeth (duh) and now that he has actual real-live cavities for the first time he gets to experience first hand what can happen if you don't take care of them. Good for him. I'm proud of him. Ever since he found the cavities he's been taking extra good care of his teeth - he doesn't argue when I tell him to brush and he rinses and flosses without me even telling him too. Of course that doesn't make up for 11 3/4 years of poor effort in that department, but it can't hurt to start now, right? Speaking of hygeine, I don't know if it's the age or what but he's all of a sudden taken an interest in his own personal hygeine. He's been taking showers every day and actually using his deodorant every single day. I'm glad (really glad). I did have a little chat about it with him because i was tired of constantly arguing with him about taking showers (but I just took one 3 days ago....) I just didn't think he actually took it to heart. I'm glad he did though. By George, he does listen to me!!!

Someone is trying to kill me

Reactions:

Whoever invented these perfect pieces of goodness has a secret vendetta against me. They may has well be called "Fat Makers" because I could gain another 10 pounds off of these little babies and I probably will (I hope not).

I'm a nerd part 2 and 3

Reactions:
Remember how I told you how I love Big Brother and I love Jeff??? Well, I saw a video tribute to him the other day that entertained me and I thought to myself "I can do better than that..." and so here it is.

Now, remember, I may be a nerd, but before you think I'm some sort of weird freak show, it didn't take me long to do the video, like probably 20 minutes or so.

I also made another one but it has basically the same pictures, different song. I like this one better, it fits Jeff perfectly.

Scooby Doo

Reactions:
We've (Dylan) have moved on from our Coconut Obsession and have moved to.....

GHOSTS

Why me????? Now we have an obsession that will scare him and probably his sister too. The only way we could move off of the coconut craze was to buy a coconut and show him that they weren't that special.

How to move off the ghost craze???? No clue. They're walking around taking pictures of the house in thermal mode to check for changes in temperature.

20 more days until school starts. Dios mio.

Double the fun

Reactions:
Today we have Dennis and Marin for the day. Maddie's been begging me for about a week to let Marin come over and so here she is. Having these two over is like having a babysitter for my kids. The only time they ever bother me is when they're hungry. Of course, I'll probably eat my words today. We rented the Hannah Montana movie and we're going to watch it here in a minute. I told Marin we were having popcorn for breakfast and she said "You're so silly Karla"

Big Brother was the awesomest last night. Yes, I know that's not a real word, but if it was, it would describe JEFF. I've developed a wee bit of a crush on him. When he blew the HOH comp for Jordan I wanted to give him a hug.

I probably shouldn't say anything because I'll be jinxing it, but over the past few days my kids have actually been getting along fairly well. I'd say probably 80-20 when it's usually 20-80. Every year at this time the flying ants come out and my kids like to catch them. Actually, Maddie likes to catch them and Dylan likes to try to hit them with a baseball bat. Typical. Anyway, they spend the last hour or so before bed doing this and they love it.

Maddie funny

Reactions:
My kids fight a lot. Probably more than average siblings and most of it comes from the fact that Maddie is a people person and always wants to talk to/play with Dylan and Dylan is NOT a people person and would rather spend his time doing things alone and gets extremely annoyed with her. I can't fault either of them. I see so much of myself in Dylan, so it's hard for me to get mad at him for wanting to be alone sometimes, but I crack down when he gets angry or mean towards her. I also can't fault Maddie for wanting to play with her brother. She just wants someone to play with and as much as they fight, she really does love him.

Anyway......

Yesterday was a day where Dylan allowed her to play with him. They were outside for about an hour (probably a world-record) and they came in and they were laughing about something and Maddie says "Dylan, you know if you weren't my brother, I think you'd be my boyfriend."

Dylan was quiet for a few minutes and he said "That's kind of weird, Maddie."

LOL

Chilling like a polar bear

Reactions:
Today was a lazy, quiet Saturday.

Last night was our Annual Softball Party. Good times. Dylan was sick so I sent him to my dad's to spend the night. He was happy with that. Maddie had a blast playing with her cousins though.

This morning Dylan was feeling better and so he and Grandma Cheryll picked up Maddie they went to the Farmer's Market for awhile. I had to work 4 hours today, which was fine. I got my new work computer Thursday and since I have to stay off "non-work related" sites, I get like 100% more work done than normal.

We had an early dinner and had our "Friday Night Movie Night" a day late because we had the party last night. We watched 17 Again. It was a really cute movie. I liked it a lot. Maddie was totally bored, so she spent most of her time on the computer. We watched the movie earlier than usual because of the Seahawks preseason game. No biggie, cause it's going to be an early night for some of us. Maddie got to bed at 11:20 last night and Joel and I got to bed at midnight. I was up at 8:00 and Maddie slept in until 9:00, which was awesome, but that doesn't make us any less tired. It was definitely nice to wake up from a Strangers Party with a clean house and a clear head though.

I'm such a nerd

Reactions:
This season of Big Brother has got to be the best yet. I've never had such a major love/hate relationship with the cast of BB has I have this year. I absolutely LOVE Jeff. His parents must be so proud of the way he's playing the game. I can't wait for tonight. I'm counting down the hours until it starts and I'm going to have to shut down all computers so I don't get online and cheat and see what happens before it starts. Not that I do that. Okay, sometimes. I won't give myself the option tonight though. I want to watch it as it plays out. Because I'm a nerd like that. We even watch BB After Dark on Showtime. A lot. Not all 3 hours 7 nights a week, but.... a lot.

The Coconut Results....

Reactions:
We drilled a hole in the coconut and drained the "milk".

Dylan tried it. Said it was "okay".

Maddie tried it and spent 10 minutes spitting in the sink.

Dylan refused to try it again and later admitted it tasted "awful".

We cracked the coconut open and the kids each got some as did Joel and I. Maddie hated it. Joel and I both felt it wasn't that good and didn't really even taste like anything. Dylan "claims" to have liked it but he only had two bites. I'm pretty sure he's not going to eat anymore. LOL He's too stubborn to actually admit that he didn't like it after all that yammering on about the stupid coconut.

At least we know now.

Coconut Crazy

Reactions:

My son has this little obsession problem. I don't know where he gets it from (shutup).

Anyway, lately....it's coconuts. I don't know why. He talks about coconuts all.the.freaking.time. Makes me insane. Not shredded coconut, but the actual coconut.

Everytime we've been to the store in the last week he's begged me for a coconut. I keep blowing him off because honestly, he wouldn't know what to do with a coconut if he had one anyway. It's the dumbest thing I ever heard of.

Today we're at the grocery store. I'm three aisles into it and Mr. Obsession is still talking about the stupid coconut. He says "Mom, I brought my own money, can I buy a coconut?"

FINE, YES!!! BUY THE STUPID COCONUT FINALLY.

As we're checking out he goes to give me his money and I told him to keep it, consider it silence money. I'm officially paying you to stop talking about the coconut.

Tonight we're going to drill a hole in the coconut because he wants to drink the coconut milk. Coconut milk is disgusting, but he doesn't know this. He will learn the hard way. Then we'll crack it up and let him eat the coconut on the inside.

I have a sneaky suspicion he won't ever bother me about buying another coconut again. It will just be something different next.

Maddie funny

Reactions:
Maddie loves fried eggs. She also likes asking me where her food comes from - animal or factory or grown. She asked me where eggs come from. I said "chickens." She gave me that "yea right" look and said "Mom, chicken eggs are baby chickens, we don't eat those eggs."

I just gave her a little smile and a nod and her eyes got as big as saucers and her face went white. I'm not so sure she likes eggs anymore.

The Morning After

Reactions:
Today is JAY'S BIRTHDAY!!!! Last night we celebrated it. We actually stayed out until the bar closed. Seriously. What were we thinking??? I'm freaking TIRED today. It was a blast though and I totally needed to go out and have a good time. I think Jay took some pictures, but it's probably best if those stay on the camera. Forever.

Now I have to work and try to keep my eyes open. Why did I have to get such a comfortable computer chair? It makes me sleepy. Maybe instead of a dinner break today I'll have to take a nap break. Who needs food? I need SLEEP.

Just breathe

Reactions:
I had the craziest dream last night about the first day of school. Dylan called me crying because he couldn't find any of his classes, so I went there to help him and they had given him the wrong schedule and the wrong map. I hope I didn't scare him by telling him about the dream.

Today is the birthday of my friend Nichole. I've known her for a lot of years through a message board and then she and her family moved here for awhile and we became closer. Now she has moved to Texas, but we still keep in touch. Happy birthday Nichole!!

Today is also the 17th Anniversary of Tara and Brad. That's a whole lot of years! Happy anniversary!

Today we are also celebrating the birthday of one of my most favorite people, JAY. Over the years he's become a great friend to Joel and I and our kids really look up to him. His actual birthday is tomorrow but we'll celebrate it tonight.

Last night we had a great family night - pizza, popcorn, movie and candy. Can't beat that.

Last night was the first night we all slept with our windows closed and fans off because it was no longer hot out. Maddie didn't sleep well like that so I finally came in and turned her fan on about 4:30 and she slept until 9:00.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this before, but as of August 4th, my boy Ryan has a new single out on Itunes called "Breathe", and it's only .99. It's well worth it. It has always been one of my favorite songs. It has such strong meaning and hold for me and brings me to tears almost every time I hear it. Buy it. You'll love it, I promise.

Breathe - Ryan Star

She's fine...most of the time.
She takes her days with a smile.
She moves like a dancer in lights,
spinning around to the sound.
But sometimes she falls down.

Breathe, just breathe.
Take the world off your shoulders
and put it on me.
Breathe, just breathe.
Let the life that you live
be all that you need.

She likes New York at night,
she dreams of running away.
Shine on, bright like the sun,
when even the sky turns gray.
I need you to hear me say...

Breathe, just breathe,
take the world off your shoulders
and put it on me.
Breathe, just breathe.
Let the life that you live
be all that you need.

Let go of the fear.
Let go of the doubt.
Let go of the ones
who try to put you down.
You're gonna be fine,
don't hold it inside.
If you hurt right now,
then let it all come out.

Breathe, just breathe.
Take the world off your shoulders
and put it on me.

Breathe, just breathe.
Let the life that you live
be all that you need.
Breathe, just breathe
take the world off your shoulders
and put it on me.
Breathe, just breathe.
Let the life that you live
be all that you need.

Back to our regular scheduled programming

Reactions:
Today is Friday and so I should be whooping up and down about how I have the day off, but alas, I do not. I have to work because I didn't work Monday. Oh well, Joel's bringing home Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner so I don't have to cook...YAY

I'm getting a computer sent to me from my work so that I no longer have to use my personal computer for work. We are moving Dylan's desk downstairs and I'll be moving the personal computer onto that and it will be the "computer/homework desk". Then I get to keep my special favorite desk for work only. The nice thing is that the kids will be able to play games on the computer while I'm working. Hallelujah to that one.

Tonight is MOVIE NIGHT. We're watching Race to Witch Mountain. Of course, we've already seen it, but my family has a poor long-term memory so they've already forgotten that they've seen it (except me of course). My kids can watch the same Spongebob episode over and over again and never bore of it so I think seeing the same movie twice in one year won't hurt them.

Today is my sister Tara's birthday!!! She's one of my most favorite people in the world. She's such a great mom and wife and human being. I really look up to her for both advice and as an example of how to be in my life, even if I fall far short of that. She's also my children's favorite Auntie, and not Just because they call her Tara Wonka the Candy Lady (lol).

Happy birthday Tara!!

Garbage Day

Reactions:
Do you ever have one of those days where everything falls apart? Everything you thought was real and true just no longer existed?

I'm not even going to discuss it here or anywhere else ever again, but I have had an awakening of sorts. I have a list (albeit, a short list) of people who I've been able to count on for absolute anything in my life, but most of all, honesty and truth. That list got a little shorter last night. While I was sad and very upset at first, I am no longer. I am moving on without the excess baggage. I have kids who love me unconditionally. I don't have to do or say the right thing. I have a husband who forgives me every single time I screw up no matter what I do and when he screws up he's right there to admit his faults and we move on from there. Blood is not thicker than anything. One little cut and it can bleed you dry until there is nothing left but a rotting, stinky corpse.

That's all I have to say about this matter. Don't ask me about it. The matter is long since dead and buried as far as I am concerned. I hope everyone has a fantastic day and sees sunshine and rainbows and butterflies all day long.

Crash and burn

Reactions:
I had serious computer problems on Monday. I had contracted a spyware/virus that literally killed my computer. I had just started a 5 hour shift when it hit the skids big time. On the suggestion of my father I took it down to Poulsbo PC Repair. They told me it would take 2-3 days. I nearly cried. That's 2-3 days of no work. BOO I got a hold of my supervisor to let her know and I just pouted. Then my dear sweet brother let me use his laptop for a few days, so I was back in business yesterday. Then the beautiful place of Poulsbo PC Repair called me last night to say my computer was done. Not only done, but it cost me $80 less than they originally quoted me. They originally quoted my $120 for the removal of the virus and $80 for backup of pictures/music so I don't lose anything. Fine by me, totally worth it. I signed the invoice and handed over my computer. Turns out they only charged me $120 because they didn't need to back up anything. They were able to remove the virus without losing any data. What makes this so special??? They could have EASILY charged me for it anyway. If you ever have computer problems, these are your guys.

Weekend Recap

Reactions:
We had a truly uneventful weekend and it was fabulous. Friday night was our "movie night" and we watched Coraline, which was surprisingly good. Maddie loved it and has watched it 3 times since.

Saturday we had a few birthday parties to attend, the first one being Jessica's and the second one being a friend of Joel's. They were both fun. At the second one they had a giant inflatable waterslide for the kids and Maddie was all over that thing. She was going down the slides backwards, upside-down, face first. She didn't care. I had a blast watching her. Dylan didn't want to go on it. He's at that age you know - not a little boy anymore and not quite a teenager. Too cool for pretty much everything. They had a BBQ there and all they had was burgers and my kids are not fans of burgers, but Dylan was starving so he got one and he loved it. Then he had a second one and ate all of that too. It was pretty funny.

Nothing exciting this week either except for a softball game tomorrow. Maddie has VBS this week. It's moments like this that remind me how different she is from Dylan. She didn't know anybody but she just jumped right in and didn't even wave goodbye to me. She said she was goijng to go make some new friends. Dylan wouldn't even come in the building, lol.

We finally watched Gran Tourino this week. Joel's been waiting to see this movie FOREVER. I fell asleep. It wasn't a bad movie by any means, but I just was tired I guess.

Oh yea:

1. Happy Anniversary to Dan and Rachel!!!
2. Happy 5th Birthday to Joshua!
3. Happy Birthday to Jessica!!
