Learning manners

Reactions:

Sometimes my children lack manners. That was almost funny for me to type, because sometimes is an understatement.

This morning Maddie learned a valuable lesson in manners.

We drove Dylan to school and since it is rather chilly in the mornings and my car sits outside where it is even chillier, I had the heater on. After dropping Dylan off at school my polite daughter announces in her least polite and not at all inside voice "MOM, IT IS TOO HOT TURN OFF THE HEATER."

I said "I will turn it off when you ask politely."

She refused.

It is a less than 5 minute drive from the school to home, she sat in the backseat claiming that she was DYING from the heat and could not breathe. The heater stayed on full blast the entire ride because she would not say "Please."

By the time we got home, she was a VERY unhappy, hot girl. So was I, to be honest.

An hour later we were back in the car. After our headbutting session about the heater earlier, the heater automatically kicked on as I started the car. I left it on. We were not even out of the neighborhood when I hear from the backseat "Mom, could you please turn the heater off?"

...and the angels sang....HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH!!!! We have exorcised the demon!

You gotta love the little parenting miracles.
